What exactly is marketing in the News Homes industry? Many will tell you it’s creating ads, full color brochures, building web sites, recommending unit pricing, designing model homes and tons of other impressive pieces that look great in anyone’s personal portfolio. But is marketing really about the stuff?

I believe in includes so much more. Simply stated, I think marketing is everything a firm does to place your product or service in the hands of potential customers. And while bells and whistles are certainly an important part of first-impressions, I believe marketing is about 2nd, 3rd and even 4th impressions. Marketing is more about on-going public relations in New Home industry than it is about marketing “stuff”.

S.H. Simmons, author and humorist, relates this anecdote.

“If a young man tells his date she’s intelligent, looks lovely, and is a great conversationalist, he’s saying the right things to the right person and that’s marketing. If the young man tells his date how handsome, smart and successful he is — that’s advertising. If someone else tells the young woman how handsome, smart and successful her date is — that’s public relations.”
